Unofficial Corps Member Arrested With Stolen Phones At Bauchi

Fake corps member arrested with stolen phones at Bauchi camp

A yet to be identified 23-year-old man who posed as a corps member has been arrested by the Bauchi state police command for allegedly infiltrating the NYSC orient@tion camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, according to the Bauchi state police spokesperson, infiltrated the camp with a fake call-up letter and was arrested after the camp director filed a complaint to the police about incessant theft on the campground.

The police further explained that at the close of the camp, the suspect had given two stolen phones to an indomie seller to settle a N17,000 debt he owed at the mami market. The stolen phones were seen with the indomie seller who later disclosed that they were given to him by the corps member.

Upon investigation, it was gathered that the suspect is a Nigerian university dropout who was studying Biology in the Faculty of Science. The suspect also claimed he decided to come to the orientation camp after his mother asked him why he had not graduated, not to talk of going for his NYSC while some of his mates had already done that.

The suspect told the police that one of his friends advised him to come to the campground so he can wear the NYSC uniform, take some pictures and send them to his mum so she can ”allow him to rest”.
