Senate Will Provide Needed Support For President Elect – Lawan

Ahmad Lawan, Nigeria’s Senate president, has said that the nation will experience more development with the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president-elect and that the 10th Senate would provide the support he needs for the betterment of the country.

Recall the Independent National Electoral Commission, via its chairman, Mahmood Yakubu on Wednesday declared the All Progressives Congress flagbearer, Tinubu winner of the February 25 presidential election.

The former Lagos State governor, garnered a total of 8, 794, 726 votes to defeat his major rivals, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 6,984, 520 votes and Peter Obi of Labour Party, who secured 6,101,533 votes out of the 24, 965, 218 total votes cast.

Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party came a distant fourth with 1,496,687 votes.

Lawan during the plenary said “this country will see more and better development and progress and will we also pray that the 10th Senate will provide the kind of support that the president-elect will need for the betterment of our country.”

Also, in a statement, Lawan said Tinubu’s victory affirmed the trust of the Nigerian people in the ruling APC.

“The election was hard-fought on all sides, so this victory is very sweet and will be savoured for a long time by our great party, the All Progressives Congress, our supporters throughout Nigeria and lovers of democracy across the world.

“This victory affirms the trust of the Nigerian people in our great party, the APC and its candidates. However, it is also a challenge to us to continue the progressive development of our dear nation, Nigeria, in line with the agenda of our party.”

Lawan further commended president Muhammadu Buhari, for ensuring a level playing field for all the contestants and for fully respecting the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
