Senate Passes Bill To Establish Federal College Of Education In Edo

A bill seeking to establish a Federal College of Education in Ekiadolor, Edo state has been passed by the Nigerian Senate after consideration on the report of the committee on Tertiary Institutions and Tetfund, during plenary on Tuesday, March 15.

The chairman of the committee, Babba-Kaita said the bill was sponsored by Sen. Matthew Urhoghide (PDP-Edo) and had scaled the second reading on Sept. 28, 2021, and it is meant to provide a legislative framework to support the establishment of the college.

According to Babba-Kaita, the establishment of the institution will improve the shortfall of teachers, as well as meet the learning, research, and instructional needs of the prospective students of host communities in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

He added that the College would, among other things, identify the educational needs of the people with a view to finding a lasting solution to the context of the government’s overall national educational development agenda.
