NANS Says To Confront Asuu Over Strike Action

NANS threatens to confront ASUU over strike action

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on commencing a four-week industrial action over the non-implementation of their agreement with the federal government.

A statement credited to the president of the association, Sunday Asefon, said the association is willing to do whatever it takes including confrontation to make sure that the strike is suspended and students and lecturers go back to classes.

Asefon lamented that the Nigerian students are always at the receiving end of the conflict between the government and ASUU and stated that the association was neither in support of ASUU nor the federal government, rather, it was going to make sure that the impact of the association is felt around the country in the coming days.

The association further called on President Muhammad Buhari to sack the ministers of labour and education, Chris Ngige and Adamu Adamu, respectively, accusing them of insincerity in addressing the union’s demands. They also accused ASUU of not considering the interest of students when taking certain actions.
