When this writer heard the snippet of Dangbana Orisa a few days before its release, I passed it off with the imagination that it was a freestyle.

Gawd. It’s an actual song.

Firstly, what’s the narrative behind Dangbana Orisa? Being boastful? Being a god? Right, but Bella, this song doesn’t fit into your persona.

From the beginning, the chorus starting off the track, “Bi ina ba njo ogidi osha, tin ba jo, ma jo makosa”, I felt it was an ode to a Yoruba god.

When did Bella turn to a Yoruba priest? Still, I understood the narrative. He’s fearless and would confront his fears rather than steer away from them.

But this is far away from the Bella who gave us danceable, catchy melodies on his debut EP, High Tension.

In a year where array of artists have stood out with their excellent production, understanding the needs of their audience and infusing lyrical depth into their content, this is below-par from Bella Shmurda. Let’s be honest.

No harsh criticism on him but I feel at this moment, this song could have been better as a freestyle or loosie or just an album filler.

Every content released at this point puts your artistry at stake. If the fans are impressed, they turn to your PR, helping spread the word about your song.

If they turn out to be disheartened by your boring content, they will bad-mouth it and this will have terrible effect. See what happened to Tiwa Savage’s recent album.

As a huge fan of Bella Shmurda, I feel he could have done better with this or not just release it. Even at 0:59, he said “I don’t even know what I’m singing”. A song recorded when he was under the influence.
