Shehu Sani has hailed the senate for rejecting Lauretta Onochie as a commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The former Kaduna lawmaker said the electoral body has been saved from a serpent.

On Tuesday, the senate declined Lauretta Onochie’s nomination as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a report by the Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Kabir Gaya said her nomination breaches Federal Character principles.

Kabir Gaya cited Section 14 (1) 3 of the Constitution, stating that somebody was already a Commissioner from her zone, and the law remained clear about that.

Reacting, Sani, on his Twitter page, said INEC has been saved from a serpent following the senate’s rejection of Onochie

His tweet read: “INEC saved from a serpent.”
