The explosion on Tuesday caused widespread damage even on the outskirts of the capital. Lebanese authorities have said that at least 78 people have been killed and 4,000 have been wounded in a massive explosion at the port in the capital, Beirut.

Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, says the explosion was caused by an estimated 2,700 tonnes of confiscated ammonium nitrate left unsecured for 6 years in a warehouse, and has vowed to punish officials responsible.
