In an interview with Rolling Stone, Davido, leader of the 30 BG, discussed the loss of his mother and other loved ones and why his latest single, “Stand Strong,” is significant to him as a musician.

According to Rolling Stone, Davido’s faith was put to the ultimate test in June 2021, when a close friend of his, Habeeb Uthman, also known as “Obama” and “44,” died after driving himself to the hospital with breathing difficulties. Davido had lost his mother when he was 10 years old.

“All my life it’s been ‘David you’re strong, David you’re strong.’ 44 I won’t lie to you, this time around, this one WEAK ME!!”

In the same year, he also lost his bodyguard and the photographer he had been working with, Fortune, who, as he told Rolling Stone, had:

“He drowned trying to get a shot. He was on a photo shoot with somebody,” Davido explained.
