It Has Been Huge Before Your Input – Davido Addresses Drake’s Impact On Afrobeats

The top Afrobeats performer thinks that Afrobeats was already well-known before Drake’s involvement.

Heavyweight Nigerian artist David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has shared his thoughts on how Canadian rapper Drake has contributed to the global popularity of Afrobeats.

With superstars like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and others selling out stadiums all over the world, there is no doubt that the genre is now the most popular and in-demand in the whole world.

When questioned about Drake’s impact on the popularity of Afrobeats in a recent appearance on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, award-winning artist Davido made it plain that the genre was already quite popular before Drake got involved.

Drake, a five-time Grammy winner, was one of the biggest international artists to embrace Afrobeats when he collaborated with Skepta on Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba remix” and incorporated the genre into his mega hit “One Dance,” which also featured Wizkid and has now gone 6x platinum in the UK.
