Chelsea Football Club have completed the signing of Argentina’s world club sensation, Enzo Fernandez on a permanent deal.
The London club confirmed the signing of Argentina’s youngster, Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a record transfer fee of £105 million. The number 5 jersey was previously worn by Jorginho who has joined Arsenal Football Club.
This means Fernandez is the most expensive player in the history of any British club. The fee surpasses the £100m Manchester City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish.
The arrival of Fernandez is one of the deal that gave the board of Chelsea a tough time. Benfica’s board were not ready to listen to any offer less than the player’s release clause.
However, he has signed a deal that will see him stay at Chelsea until the summer of 2031.
Fernandez is the eighth player that Chelsea has signed in this transfer window, this takes their spending to £290 million. The 22-year-old is expected to fill in the boots that was left by Jorginho who made a move to Arsenal Football Club.
