Schools Were Given Enough Time For BECE Registration – NECO
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has maintained that all schools were given sufficient time to register their candidates for the 2020 Basic Examination Certificate Examinations (BECE).
The Head of Information and Public Communication, Azeez Sani, said the council received complaints by some schools, protesting the inability of their students to sit for the ongoing exams.
According to the council, the earlier deadline was extended till midnight on Friday, August 21 to accommodate late registration of students owing to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Sani stated that the registration portal was closed to give the council adequate time to produce and allocate examination materials to the respective centres. According to him, NECO’s actions was not to punish or hurt registrants but to ensure a smooth process.
He added that the extension was widely publicized through various platforms and reinstated the commitment of the council towards effective and efficient conduct of all examinations within its statutory mandate.
