[ad_1]
English champions Manchester City were ever-present in the Premier League end-of-season award as Phil Foden, Ruben Dias and Pep Guardiola all taking home prizes for the 2020/21 campaign.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela was handed the Premier League Goal of the Season award for his stunning rabona-strike in the North London derby.
Dias did an individual award double having secured the Football Writers’ Association award in May, snatching it away from his team-mate Kevin De Bruyne, who won the Premier League Player of the Season award last season, and Tottenham center forward Harry Kane.
Guardiola partnered the Portuguese defender with John Stone at the heart of the defence and ended up conceding just 32 goals in total in the Premier League, which played a pivotal role in helping them become champions of England.
After claiming one victory in their first three league games, Dias helped increase the influence in the team as they achieved a 21-game winning streak in all competitions, which included their 15 consecutive victories in the English Top Flight.
Foden won the award for Young Player of the Season, snatching it away from his team-mate Dias, alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Marcus Rashford, Declan Rice, Mason Mount, Bukayo Saka and IllanMeslier, who were all nominated for end-of-season award.
The England international bagged 9 Premier League goals in seven assist in 28 league apperances, he had no trouble filling the void left behind by former City midfielder David Silva.
Guardiola was able to scare off competitions from Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, Manchester United’s boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa and West Ham’s David Moyes to secure his award.
The former Barcelona manager was able to win his third, and Manchester City’s fifth Premier League title, in his fourth season in England.
Across the 2020/21 league campaign, the Etihad’s outfit have the least goals conceded, 32, and the highest goals scored, 83, to produce the 15-game winning streak in the league mid-season.
Guardiola also helped the team to UEFA Champions League Final but they were unable to secure the European title as they were defeated by the league rivals Chelsea in a 1-0 loss at Porto.
Regardless, Manchester City will be returning for action in 2021/22 campaign as the Premier League defenders and will be hoping to secure the European title this time.
