President Buhari Transmits ₦819.5 Billion Supplementary Budget To NASS
The National Assembly has received a supplement to the 2023 Appropriations Bill from President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired).
On Wednesday, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, read aloud to the members the contents of the cover letter for the bill.
In the cover letter, Buhari claimed that the additional request for N819,536,937,813 for the following year was necessary because of the destruction that floods caused to farming and road infrastructure.
According to the President, Nigeria witnessed the “worst flood incidents in recent history, which has caused massive destruction of farmlands,” adding that the country now risks food insecurity.
He stressed that the floods affected “several roads and bridges” across the 36 states of the federation.
The supplementary budget got to the federal parliament about 24 hours before the passage of the 2023 Appropriation Bill.
The president only transmitted the Finance Bill 2023 to the National Assembly on Tuesday.
