President Buhari Congratulates Tems For Making History At The 2023 Grammys
President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a statement of praise for the accomplishments of Afrobeats singer Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, for earning a Grammy Award at the prestigious event of 2023.
The President’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, said on Monday that Buhari was proud of the young singer’s achievements, noting that she had put Nigeria in the global spotlight for the second time.
On 5 February, Tems made history by winning the “Best Melodic Rap Performance” category at the Grammy Awards. She is the first Nigerian woman to achieve such a feat, and the President’s words signify a sense of pride in her capabilities and talents. Buhari also commended Burna Boy, an Afrobeats star, who was nominated in two categories but did not win the Grammy Award.
Tems is an inspirational artist with a growing profile, and the Grammy Award is a reflection of her greatness, determination, and hard work. In spite of the obstacles, she has continued to pave the way for young Nigerian women and continues to motivate them to pursue their dreams and reach for the stars.
The President’s recognition of Tems’s accomplishments is applauded as it further reinforces to society the value and importance of female achievements in the music industry. Buhari emphasizing that no ambition is too big for any African woman is encouraging to women in the industry and in general, who are fighting for greater representation and opportunities within the sector.
