The state government of Osun has declared Friday, June 24, a work-free day in order to give civil servants who have not yet picked up their Permanent Voter Cards the opportunity to do so three weeks before the gubernatorial election.

In a statement released on Thursday, the government explained that the development would allow all public and civil servants to choose their PVC and exercise their right to vote in the governorship election on July 16.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji.

The statement read in part:

“The Government of Osun State acknowledges the importance of workers in the democratic process, and is aware that the only way workers can give life to their aspiration for a worker-friendly government is through their votes.

“The government does not want anyone to miss out on the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right, especially as it affects their overall wellbeing and the security of their future, ” the statement read.
