Legendary Nigerian rapper and YBNL Records owner Olamide opens up on why he decided to sign artists like Fireboy DML and Asake to his label.

Olamide, the Nigerian rapper and owner of YBNL Records, has been instrumental in molding the careers of many successful Nigerian artists. His present artists, Fireboy DML and Asake, are among the most successful new-age musicians out of Africa.

In a recent podcast interview, Olamide revealed why he decided to sign these artists to his label.

When Olamide started getting too much money and didn’t know what to do with it, he decided to sign new artists. He wanted to give back to society by helping new artists achieve their goals.

In his words,

“I just started stacking up money and the money was becoming too much for me. I was like, “yo, I don’t have anything to do with this money. I need to sign new guys. Let me spend money on people.”

This decision has proven to be a successful one. Fireboy DML and Asake have become household names in the Nigerian music industry and beyond. Fireboy DML’s debut album, Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps, was a critical and commercial success, earning him several awards and nominations. Asake’s hit single “Mr Money” has also been a major success.

Olamide’s empire has grown so big that he has been able to invest in other business ventures. Olamide is also a brand ambassador for several companies, including Guinness Nigeria and Sterling Bank.

Olamide’s decision to sign new artists to his record label was not just about making money. He wanted to give back to society and help young artists achieve their dreams.
