NANS, Zone D Commends Ban On SARS, Says Youths Does Not Deserve Their Brutality

It is disheartening to note that the duties and responsibilities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have suffered a twist. Citizens who ought to be protected and safeguarded are the ones experiencing the brutality of the security agency. It saddens the heart to speak of how the youths have been the major victims of the inhumane act, this has indeed dragged the rights and liberty of citizens into the mud.

It is a major issue that requires quick attention. The illegal searching of people’s private residences by SARS is quite alarming and strongly unconstitutional. To worsen matters, some victims of these criminals in security uniforms were killed. This is greatly perturbing and devastating.

Therefore, the recent development of the ban on SARS is highly commendable as it seeks to restore peace and liberty to the constitutional right of citizens.

In accordance with this, the body of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Zone D, expresses its stand against the actions perpetrated by the Federal SARS. It is highly inhumane and our youths who are the victims are by majority Nigerian students who do not deserve the brutality. There is the right to freedom and only if a suspect is found wanting of wrongly exercising the right should he/she be prosecuted but through the right constitutional processes.

Once again, recurrences of this act would greatly mean that the youths are slightly considered in the country and as such, we won’t resist the urge to express our displeasure peacefully. We commend the ban and we also advise that it is strictly followed and duly adhered to.

It needs to be emphasized that this is the fourth time in three years that the government and IGP would be announcing the banning of SARS on the media without effecting the pronouncement. However, we are resolute that as the voice of Nigerian students in the South West Zone, we shall do all things legally and rationally possible to ensure an effective ban this time.

The duties of the security agencies in the country are to protect the citizens and not to oppress, brutalize or extort from them.

Aluta Continua!

Victoria Ascerta!.

God bless Nigeria,

God bless the South West,

God bless NANS.
