Mbappe & Messi To Fight For This Award
Paris Saint-Germain teammates, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are now battling for the UNFP Ligue 1 ‘Player of the Year’ award for the 2022-23 season.
Both players were nominated for the award in a list confirmed by UNFP on their official website.
The list also has the likes of RC Lens teammates, Lois Openda and Seko Fofana, and LOSC Lille Metropole’s Jonathan David.
France international Mbappe has claimed the award the last three times it was handed out.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the award was declared void for the 2019-20 season.
Mbappe has continued his rich vein of form this season, scoring 26 goals and making five assists in 31 league games.
Messi on the other hand has not done badly too with 15 goals and as many assists in 29 Ligue 1 matches.
The 23-year-old Openda has spearheaded Lens’ title charge this campaign with his 19 goals in 35 Ligue 1 matches.
